Falcon Village will have a place for pedestrians in downtown Maple Ridge.

The final phases of Falcon Village are underway with construction and excavation allowing the start of the third of four condo complexes in downtown Maple Ridge.

Two buildings are already complete on the Selkirk Avenue and 226th Street site.

Once all four buildings are finished, a public walkway and courtyard will result with bench seating, walkways, public art and water features, according to the City of Maple Ridge.

Stores will be on the ground floor of the new building, while the public space will create a connection between Haney Place and Valley Fair malls, as well as the Maple Ridge civic facilities.

Cycling will also be improved by extending facilities along 119th Avenue and 227th Street.

The city had bought the property in 2010 for $3.7 million and removed several ramshackle homes, then sold it to Falcon Homes in 2015 for $7 million.

"The project will also bring life to the street frontage through architectural features and the reconstruction of the surrounding road network to an enhanced Town Centre standard similar to the recent work completed on 226 Street," said the City of Maple Ridge.
