Elderly pedestrian hit by vehicle in Chilliwack has died

Man was airlifted to hospital following collision on residential street; RCMP still investigating

An elderly man who was hit by a vehicle on a residential street in Chilliwack earlier this week has died.

The pedestrian collision happened on Spruce Drive at Eden Drive in Sardis around 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12. The man was airlifted to hospital.

“Sadly the male pedestrian has succumbed to his injuries and has died,” Cpl. Carmen Kiener, media spokesperson with Chilliwack RCMP stated in a press release on Friday, March 15.

Following the incident, a portion of Spruce Drive between Vedder Road and Wiltshire Street was closed to traffic for several hours as RCMP investigated.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was co-operating fully with police.

“The Chilliwack RCMP Traffic Section continue to complete a thorough investigation to determine what lead to this tragic incident.”

RCMP are not releasing the name of the deceased at this time.
