RCMP are looking of a man who stole a pickup truck in Maple Ridge after carjacking its owner early Tuesday.

Around 5:15 a.m., a man in his 30s found a man attempting to steal his truck.

After being discovered, the thief grabbed a weapon and demanded the owner hand over the truck's keys.

Ridge Meadows RCMP said the owner complied and the thief fled in the white 2005 Ford F350.

The truck has been found but police are still looking for the man who stole it. The theft took place near York Street and Dewdney Trunk Road.

"We are continuing the investigation to identify the suspect," said Cpl. Alana Dunlop.

"Investigators do not feel this was a targeted theft, and it appears to be a crime of opportunity. By complying with the suspect’s demands, it certainly helped the victim stay safe."

The suspect is described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s, 5 foot 10 inches tall with a stocky build. He has either very short blond hair, or is bald, and was wearing a dark coloured wind breaker style jacket with dark pants.
