Maple Ridge man arrested for trafficking drugs

A 21-year-old Maple Ridge man was arrested by police on Thursday for trafficking drugs.Ridge Meadows RCMP’s Street Enforcement Unit stopped the man on Stanton Avenue near Ashley Crescent around 3:40 p.m. after seeing him in a car making several transactions that police allege are consistent with dealing drugs.A subsequent search led to the seizure of marijuana, prescription medications and other items, including a quantity of cash.The man was released from custody but could face a charges of trafficking in a controlled substance.Drunk driverA Maple Ridge man lost his car and license on Saturday after police found him driving while drunk.The 55-year-old was pulled over around 3 p.m. after Ridge Meadows RCMP received a report of an erratic driver on 240th Street. Police were told the man posed a definite risk to everyone’s safety. Officers caught him on 108th Avenue and found he showed signs of being impaired by alcohol. Samples of his breath resulted in ‘fail’ readings on a roadside screening device. The man was given an immediate 90-day suspension and his car was impounded for 30 days.Car crashTwo people were taken to hospital early Thursday after a car crashed into a garage in Maple Ridge.Police suspect the 54-year-old driver fell asleep while driving in the 25100-block of 100 Avenue around 3 a.m.The man and a 52-year-old woman were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.Stolen carsRidge Meadows RCMP are looking for a black 1993 Jeep Cherokee stolen last week from 222nd Street in Maple Ridge.The theft happened sometime between  4:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7:40 a.m. on Thursday. The car had B.C. license plates 406 JEL on it at the time of the theft.Police are also looking for a brown 1994 Dodge Caravan that was stolen from Royal Crescent in Maple Ridge. The van had B.C. license plates 934 FTX on it at the time of the theft. The van was stolen sometime between Friday and Sunday.Cars vandalizedPolice are warning residents about a rash of vandalism last week that targeted cars in Maple Ridge.A Dodge Journey and a Toyota Celica parked in the 20600-block of 119th Avenue had their front passenger windows smashed overnight Friday or early Saturday.On Sunday around 9 a.m., a police officer on patrol found three other cars with their front passenger windows smashed. The black BMW, brown Nissan 240Sx and a grey Mitsubishi Eclipse were parked at the Haney Hotel.SavedA quick-thinking friend and the actions of a police officer are being credited for saving the life of a young woman.The woman called her friend on Thursday, saying she was thinking of harming herself.As a result, the man called RCMP, who went to the woman's home, along with paramedics.Const. Ryan Henley had to force his way into the house, where they found the woman in distress. She was taken to hospital for treatment.“If the man failed to contact emergency services and Const. Henley did not take the appropriate action, this case could have had a very different outcome," Cpl. Alanna Dunlop. "Certainly everyone involved did great in saving this woman’s life.”  The woman is expected to make a full recovery.
