Maple Ridge ‘not’ renaming hospital: city

City twice made reference 'Maple Ridge Hospital.'

A City of Maple Ridge news release this week telling people that Fraser Health is listening and may reduce parking rates at the Ridge Meadows Hospital, twice referred to the institution by another name.

“Maple Ridge Hospital reviewing parking rates and invited public feedback,” said the title on the Jan. 24 news release.

The Maple Ridge name was repeated in the body of the news release with the actual name, Ridge Meadows Hospital, never appearing.

“I’m not sure if that’s a Freudian slip or not,” said Coun. Craig Speirs.

“That slipped past me. I don’t think it’s a campaign at all.”

The name Ridge Meadows Hospital is one shared with the City of Pitt Meadows, he added.

Still, “I think the name Ridge Meadows rankles some times.” There is no such geographic location, he noted.

Ridge Meadows is also used to describe the local RCMP detachment, while the term is also used for the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation, Ridge Meadows Hospice Society, the Ridge Meadows Flames and the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society.

“As far as I know, it’s still Ridge Meadows,” Coun. Gordy Robson said of the hospital.

But Maple Ridge is in the middle of a rebranding exercise, he pointed out.

Maple Ridge Mayor Nicole Read said there’s no campaign or intent to change the name of the hospital.

“It’s the Ridge Meadows Hospital.”
