A Westview Secondary School student was taken to hospital Wednesday morning after falling out of a tree in Westview Park during a physical education class.
Students at the school said the teenage boy was playing 'capture the flag' and climbed up the tree in an attempt to get away from his pursuer.
As the boy was climbing back down a branch broke and he fell 10 feet down, landing on his back on a tree stump.
Maple Ridge fire chief Dane Spence said the fall injured the boy's hip.
After falling, the boy got up and walked across the street where he collapsed.
The boy was taken by ambulance to hospital.
