In the middle of National Volunteer Week (April 14 to 20), the City of Maple Ridge is recognizing community contributors, and asking for more people to get involved in the coming BC Summer Games and other events.

“Our community is driven by our volunteers, and their tireless efforts make Maple Ridge a better place for everyone,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “I want to thank each and every one of our volunteers for all that you do to make a positive impact on the lives of others and being the backbone of our city.”

City hall noted that volunteers provide much-needed support in recreational programming, crime prevention, environmental programs, festivals, emergency support services, youth services and much more. Thousands of people also share their time and talents to support causes, such as raising money for charities, helping school Parent Advisory Councils, supporting youth and adult sports, arts groups or by helping a neighbour.

As part of the Earth Day event taking place on April 20, hosted by the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society, city staff will be in Memorial Peace Park providing information about upcoming volunteer opportunities. Residents are invited to stop by the city tent for a free treat and to find a volunteer opportunity that meets their passion and talent.
