New gambling machines raking in money for Maple Ridge

Slot machines generated $125,000 for the district in three months

They've only been in Maple Ridge since October, but already the 100 electronic slot machines are helping pay the municipality's bills.

In their first three months of operation, from October to December 2010, the machines generated $125,000 for the district.

The municipality gets 10 per cent of revenues from the slot machines and is expecting to earn at least $300,000 annually.

Great Canadian Gaming expanded the Haney Bingo Plex last year at a cost of about a million dollars, to make room for the new machines.

Council wants the money to go to one-off projects and will check out next quarter's results in May to get a better idea of how much the machines will actually earn for the municipality.
