Overnight shooting in Coquitlam leaves 2 people with gunshot wounds

A late night shooting in a Coquitlam shopping mall parking lot sent two people to hospital with gunshot wounds on Sunday (Feb. 11).

RCMP say officers were called to the intersection of Barnet Highway and Pinetree Way, where the Coquitlam Centre is located, for the reported shooting at 11:56 p.m.. Searching the parking area outside of a Cactus Club, officers discovered a man and a woman in their late-20s suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.

Both were transported to hospital where they remain as of Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 13).

Twenty minutes after they were discovered, RCMP say a a silver Chrysler 200 was found on fire near 180 Street and Golden Ears Way in Surrey. Police believe the vehicle is linked to the shooting and are searching for any information on it or the two individuals who police suspect carried out the attack.

The Coquitlam detachment is asking f0r anyone who saw the Chrysler in the Coquitlam Centre parking lot between 11:30 p.m. Feb. 11 and 12:30 a.m. Feb. 12 to contact them and quote file number 2024-3605.

“We understand and share the community concerns regarding the recent shootings within the Coquitlam Centre area. We are exploring every investigational avenue while working with assisting agencies as crime is borderless and can be interconnected in multiple jurisdictions,” Insp. Darren Carr said in a statement.
