Passerby thwarts pizza store robbery

An alert passer-by helped police catch a man caught trying breaking into a Maple Ridge pizza store on Monday.

Ridge Meadows RCMP received a call from a man around 12:30 a.m. who had seen someone using a power drill on the front door of the restaurant on Dewdney Trunk Road.

A police dog was brought in and tracked the suspect to a bus stop bench not far from the scene, where the 29-year-old was taken into custody.

“Police seized items that they are preparing to present in court,” said Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.

Police are also allege the man violated terms of a court-imposed probation order by being in possession of break-in instruments.

Travis Granger appeared in Port Coquitlam Provincial Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody until Thursday.

 

Truck stolen

A pickup truck was stolen during a break-in early Tuesday in Maple Ridge.

The theft took place at 4 a.m. on 276th Street.

The stolen truck is a black 1997 GMC Sonoma pickup with British Columbia licence plates 1563LG.

 

Crack found

Ridge Meadows RCMP are seeking drug trafficking charges against a woman caught with a significant quantity of crack cocaine.

The 52-year-old was stopped near Valley Fair Mall in the 22700 block of Lougheed Highway just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police seized the cocaine and released the woman on a promise to appear in court.
