The Pitt Meadows Regional Airport is about to get a bit of a makeover thanks to a nearly $1.6 million investment from the province.
This announcement was made on Friday, May 19, as MLA Lisa Beare spoke about the importance of this funding, which makes up a small part of the $19.8 million that is being distributed throughout the province as part of the BC Air Access Program.
“People don’t always consider how incredibly vital smaller airports can be,” said Beare.
“Pitt Meadows airport offers maintenance and training, including float plane pilot training. This funding will go a long way in making sure the Pitt Meadows airport can continue to serve people and businesses in the valley and along the Fraser River.”
Airport CAO Guy Miller explained that this investment from the province will help pay for the costs of paving the runway, and rehabilitating and resurfacing the taxiway.
“We are grateful for the support of the provincial government to help fund these important pavement rehabilitation projects that are vital to our commitment to operational safety, long-term sustainability, and ongoing corporate success here at Pitt Meadows Regional Airport,” said Miller.
$890,050 of the money will be dedicated toward runway paving, with the remaining $666,850 being spent on the resurfacing and rehabilitation of the taxiways.
This project is expected to be completed by the end of summer and will include milling, base repairs, repaving, and line painting.
