With a civic election on the horizon, Andrew Thompson is the first candidate out of the gate to officially declare he’ll be seeking a seat on Pitt Meadows council.

Thompson volunteers for many city committees, including Pitt Meadows Day, Canada Day ceremonies, A Pitt Meadows Christmas, and serves as a director to Pitt Meadows Community Foundation and volunteers regularly at the Friends in Need Food Bank.

As a member of the Active Transportation Advisory Committee, Thompson sees the need to be aggressive in lobbying senior levels of government for an improved interchange at Lougheed Highway and Harris Road, improvements to transit options, and the need to invest in cycling and walking networks.

Thompson said he believes that Pitt Meadows is an extraordinary place to live, yet realistically believes the community needs to be “forward-thinking” and continue to keep taxes low, but plan and prepare for future expenses and capital project costs.

He believes that all expenses must be thoroughly monitored to ensure that taxpayers’ money is being maximized and well spent.

The civic election takes place on 15 Nov.
