UPDATED: Police investigating body found in Maple Ridge park

Woman’s body discovered early Friday near Lougheed Highway

The body found in Kanaka Creek Regional Park on Friday was that of a woman.

The woman has been identified, and next of kin have been notified, but Ridge Meadows RCMP are not releasing her name.

She was discovered in the riverfront area of the park, near the Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge.

RCMP received a report of an unresponsive female in the south area of the park around 7:40 a.m.

Upon attendance, police discovered a deceased adult female.

Police are working with the B.C. Coroner’s Service to determine the cause of death.

The investigation is in the early stages and police are offering no other details at this time.

That section of the park remained closed all morning as investigators were at the bend in the trail near the observation towers near the creek.

Three police vehicles were stationed near the creek.

• Meanwhile, police responded to a call of shots fired on McKechnie Road in Pitt Meadows on Sunday evening.

Members of the public reported in social media seeing numerous police vehicles and officers with guns drawn.

RCMP say their investigation revealed the report of gunfire was unfounded.
