Coquitlam emergency personnel responded to the scene of a fatal hit-and-run in Coquitlam Thursday night.

Police are looking for a suspect after a 51-year-old man was hit by a vehicle in Coquitlam on Thursday night.

The pedestrian, who was hit at the 800-block of Austin Avenue around 8 p.m., succumbed to his injuries. The driver did not stop at the scene.

RCMP say the driver may not have known exactly what happened when he or she hit the pedestrian in the dark.

“Collisions at night can be very confusing,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. “Right now, we only have the perspective of witnesses. Until we hear from you, the driver, we won’t know your side and thus we won’t have the complete picture of what happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and ask for Cpl. Quentin Frewing, or remain anonymous and call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or visit solvecrime.ca.
