This passenger side mirror broke off a silver Nissan Altima (2006 to 2012) after the car struck a road maintenance worker in Maple Ridge early Wednesday.

Ridge Meadows RCMP are looking for a car that struck and injured a road maintenance worker early Wednesday.

The man was working in the 24100 block of Lougheed Highway with a colleague when they saw a silver Nissan Altima speeding towards them around 1:30 a.m.

The workers ran towards the middle of the four lane highway to avoid the car, but police allege the car also altered its course and heading towards the workers.

The car struck a work truck and one of the workers before it stopped for a brief moment but then sped off towards Mission.

"The potential for this incident to be worse was certainly there," said Sgt. Dale Somerville.

The man received injuries to his back and leg.

The passenger side mirror broke off the car during the collision and Somerville said police have that mirror.

"Through that we have identified this vehicle as a 2006 to 2012 Nissan Altima," said Somerville.

Police do not have a licence plate number so are asking the public to look for a silver Nissan Altima which is missing a passenger side mirror.

Gold stolen in break-in

Thieves stolen over $2,000 in gold after breaking into a business in Maple Ridge this week.

The theft took place over night Tuesday or early Wednesday at the Meadow Vale shopping mall, which is situated in the 19100 block of the Lougheed Highway.

According to police, the thieves broke into a vacant store and then managed to enter two adjoining businesses including a jewelry store where they stole approximately gold pendants and rings.

"The thieves would've had to take considerable time and effort to break in to the adjoining businesses, and police are hoping someone heard or saw something," said Cpl. Alana Dunlop.

Police have few leads to follow up at this time, and are asking for anyone with any information regarding this crime to call Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251.
