Man arrested with weapon

A Maple Ridge man was arrested early Saturday for carrying a concealed weapon.

Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a report of a man acting suspiciously by 212th Street and Wicklund Avenue at 1:30 p.m.

RCMP found the man, and an interview led to the weapon being located.

The man, 22, was arrested, then released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

Police issue 108 tickets

RCMP traffic services handed out 108 violation tickets Friday and Saturday.

They focused on the High Occupancy Vehicle lanes on Lougheed Highway during morning and afternoon rush hours, as well as construction areas.

Meanwhile, youth resource officers are keeping watch around schools.

"Parents and commuters quite often get delayed with parents dropping off or picking up children at school, making it unsafe for our younger citizens," police said.

Officers are also watching students who have driving restrictions due to being ‘New’ drivers, to make sure they’re not carrying more than one passenger, and they have the appropriate ‘N’ sticker on their vehicle.
