The Ridge Meadows RCMP, in partnership with the City of Maple Ridge, are launching Project Dovetail.

Last summer, police launched an initiative to further enhance presence in the downtown core area, and termed it, Project C.O.R.E, an acronym for Community Policing, Outreach, Response and Enforcement.

Crime analyst data reflected that Project C.O.R.E was an effective initiative, resulting in decreasing crime and increasing connections with the business community.

This year Project Dovetail aims to continue the success of Project C.O.R.E, and further connect all public safety teams within the City of Maple Ridge. The project will work in concert with the City of Maple Ridge to form a cohesive and collaborative effort led by the RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), with support from the city bylaws department, Community Safety Officers, RCMP volunteers and Westridge Security.

Project Dovetail is a two-month long initiative focused on increasing public safety in the Maple Ridge downtown core through engagement, education, visibility, and enforcement. The project will feature dedicated foot and bike patrols to increase visibility and boost business and resident engagement throughout the Maple Ridge Town Centre.

“The focus of Project Dovetail is to develop positive relationships with businesses and residents in the downtown area by gathering intelligence and developing strategies,” said Superintendent Wendy Mehat, officer in charge at the Ridge Meadows detachment.

“With the fantastic support of our city partners, our visible foot and bike patrols will help address public safety issues and support the business community in the Maple Ridge town centre. This project starts today and we look forward to seeing you out there.”

Project Dovetail patrols will also provide outreach services and referrals to vulnerable residents in the downtown core.
