Mounties are warning the public about a young sex offender currently living in Maple Ridge.
Ridge Meadows RCMP issued the notification Wednesday two weeks after James Edward Harry, 19, was released from a pre-trial centre on April 27.
Police characterize the young man as a "dangerous sexual predator."
Cpl. Alanna Dunlop said the public interest notification is being made under the Privacy Act of Canada, in the interest of public safety.
He is being supervised by the Maple Ridge probation office and also being monitored by Ridge Meadows RCMP's serious crimes unit, which first became aware of Harry when he was a youth.
Court records show Harry was placed under a peace bond in October 2009 because police feared he may commit a sexual offence against a person under 16.
The peace bond was sworn just three months after Harry turned 18.
He breached the peace bond on Sept. 8, 2010 and spent 16 days in jail. He also received a 12-month probation order.
Harry, however, violated the probation order in January and has yet to be sentenced for the breach.
He was released from a remand centre last month with strict conditions that prohibit him from having contact with anyone under 16.
He must also stay away from parks, playgrounds, swimming pools, day cares, schools and anywhere else children are present.
He is not allowed to use a computer or the Internet to communicate with anyone under 16.
Harry is also confined to his apartment and can only leave the building with staff or with a person specifically approved of by one of the staff for an excursion or outings.
"If you observe him in violation of any of the above conditions, please do not approach him," said Dunlop.
