Squamish RCMP bust large-scale butane cannabis extraction operation

One Squamish man has been arrested and release pending further investigation

Police arrested on man and seized 1,500 pot plants and shut down an active butane honey oil operation in the upper Squamish Valley on Thursday.

In a Saturday news release, RCMP say they found a barn converted into a cannabis cultivation operation and an active butane honey oil operation.

The operation involved “dangerous organic solvents” and altering pot with them remains illegal in Canada. Butane is used as a solvent to extract resin from marijuana.

BC Hydro officials said the barn had a “full electrical diversion specifically designed to steal electricity to power the large scale operation.

One Squamish man has been arrested and release pending further investigation.

“There are numerous safety hazards associated with electrical theft and cannabis production, notably the risks associated with BHO operations due to the volatility of butane” said Sgt. Jeff Shore.

“Despite the legalization of cannabis, the RCMP will continue criminal enforcement efforts when it comes to youth, public safety and organized crime.”
