Two men arrested for Maple Ridge assault

Ridge Meadows RCMP are recommending charges after a man was attacked Wednesday in Maple Ridge.

Two men, one 30 from Chilliwack and the other 26 from Port Moody were arrested after police were called around 9:45 p.m. about an assault inside a residence on Laity Street.

Two men were beating up another.

The suspects were observed leaving in a grey mini van.

The vehicle was later located on 224th Street and St. Anne Avenue in downtown Maple Ridge just before 10:30 p.m., when pair were arrested.

They were to appear in court on Thursday. Police are recommended charges of assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, and break and enter charges.

The victim suffered cuts and bruises in the attack.

 

Girlfriend assaulted

A 25-year-old Maple Ridge man was arrested Wednesday for assaulting his girlfriend.

Police were called to the 21600-block of the Lougheed Highway about a dispute between a man and a woman at 10 p.m.

The woman has sustained injuries consistent with an assault, said police, but not serious in nature.

The man was held in custody for a court appearance Thursday.

 

BMW stolen

Ridge Meadows RCMP are looking for a black 1999 BMW 318is that was stolen from a property on Cedar Way in Maple Ridge.

The car went missing sometime between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The car had B.C. licence plates No. 391 FMX.

 

Handguns found after arrests

Ridge Meadows RCMP took two handguns off the street last week after finding the weapons during two separate arrests.

On Friday, police arrested a 29-year-old man after finding a gun in his "purse."

Sgt. Dale Somerville said the man is known to police and was a passenger in a car that was stopped by officers in downtown Maple Ridge.

The man was remanded in custody over the weekend for a court appearance on Monday.

James Joseph Letendre has since been charged with one count each of possessing a restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a weapon, occupying a vehicle in which there is a firearm and possessing a weapon contrary to a court order. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing which is set for Feb. 16.

On Wednesday, officers with the Lower Mainland Integrated Gang Task Force and Ridge Meadows RCMP arrested a 45-year-old man in Pitt Meadows after a loaded handgun was found in his possession.

Police said the man was prohibited from possessing weapons.

Jeffery Tottenham has since been charged with two counts of possessing a restricted firearm and one count of possessing a firearm contrary to a court order.
