A 12-year-old boy was rushed to hospital Tuesday after he was hit by a van while crossing a road in Maple Ridge.
The boy and three friends were in a marked crosswalk on Lougheed Highway at Burnett Street when a five-tonne van, which was unable to stop in time, struck him.
Ridge Meadows RCMP have charged the driver with a Motor Vehicle Act offence of failing to yield to a pedestrian.
The boy was airlifted to hospital with a cut to his head, but police said he is doing well.
The accident has Maple Ridge residents calling for the speed limit to be reduced along the stretch of highway.
