VIDEO: Fire at supportive housing complex in Maple Ridge

Minor fire in one unit at Garibaldi Ridge

Firefighters and other first responders were on scene at the Garibaldi Ridge Supportive Housing Complex on Burnett Street for a fire call on Tuesday morning.

The call came in at approximately 11:15 a.m., for alarms ringing, as there was a minor fire in a unit.

“Crews found some material on fire inside one of the units,” said deputy fire chief Geoff Spriggs, which had already been extinguished with a fire extinguisher on site.

Firefighters were on site clearing out smoke from the building and checking to make sure nothing else in the unit was problematic, added Spriggs.

There was very little damage to the unit and nobody was displaced by the blaze.

Garibaldi Ridge offers 51 homes for people who were homeless or at risk of homelessness, and opened in 2019.

A witness said they saw first responders tending to a patient with a cut on their leg.
