A 35-year-old woman was arrested in Maple Ridge on Thursday with a substantial quantity of illegal street drugs.
RCMP executed a search warrant at a home in the 22300-block of 117 Avenue and also seized a number of other items that are commonly associated in the distribution of drugs.
“This search is part of an ongoing investigation regarding drug trafficking in downtown Maple Ridge,” said Cpl. Brenda Winpenny. “Investigators seized thousands of dollars that are alleged to be crime-related, along with what police believe are heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine. Police are now in the process of sending the substances to the laboratory to determine exactly what substances they are, as the investigation continues.”
Supt. David Fleugel said RCMP continue to aggressively target the distribution of illegal drugs in the downtown core.
"Our focus is aimed at the persons who sell and distribute these substances to our citizens for profit and greed. Our investigation will demonstrate that the female arrested was alleged to be supplying street level drugs to multiple low-level drug dealers on the streets of downtown Maple Ridge."
Charges of possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking are being pursued.
Illegal transfer of firearms
Ridge Meadows RCMP and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team have arrested three people now charged with a multitude of firearms related charges.
Christina May Stover, a 40-year old Langley resident, is charged with four counts of illegally transferring a restricted or prohibited weapon, as well as four counts of unlawfully transferring a restricted weapon and one count of careless storage of a firearm.
Surrey resident Walter Brando De Medeiros, 54, has been charged with six counts of possession of a restricted firearm, two counts of possession of an unloaded or loaded restricted firearm, and one count of careless storage of a firearm.
Warren Glenn Svensrud, 50 and also from Surrey, is charged with one count each of possession of a firearm without being the holder of a valid licence, possession without being the holder of a licence, and careless storage of a firearm.
All three were arrested on Friday, March 11.
“This investigation has resulted in police seizing a number of firearms that were being stored illegally, and may have been destined for a criminal element in a number of communities,” said RCMP Supt. David Fleugel. “As a result of the investigation, police have seized nine firearms, including handguns, rifles, and shotguns."
The police investigation is continuing and the matter is before the courts.
