FOLEY, Carl John Fergus

November 18, 1943 - November 19, 2016

Carl John Fergus Foley passed away on November 19, 2016 at the age of 73 in Maple Ridge, BC. Carl was born in Fergus Ontario on November 18, 1943 to parents Vernon and Madeleine and raised in a rural farm community in Arthur Ontario.

One of three children, Carl was older brother to Colleen and Vernon. As an adult, he stepped away from farming life, moving west as a Frontier Apostle in 1968.

Following an apprenticeship, he worked for BC Hydro and Northwood Pulp as an electrician in various locations in central and northern British Columbia from 1972 to 82. He met his wife Margaret at a prayer group in Prince George; they married on December 14, 1979 and raised a family together. To better accommodate this new and busy family life, Carl worked as an apprenticeship counselor for the next decade-a new government position in similar capacity moved the family to Maple Ridge in 1995. Carl continued to do trades counselling from 2002 until retiring in 2011.

Proud man of faith, Carl was a dedicated member of his parish, Saint Patrick's. He became a member of the Knights of Columbus; over 19 years, he served as the Grand Knight of Thomas Haney Council, was District Deputy, and Faithful Navigator of the Pope John Paul Assembly. Carl was a loyal and devoted husband, committed to family, church and community. He was always welcoming and generous beyond his humble means. "Grandpa Carlos" had a loud voice but a soft interior; he will be remembered for thinking of others first and always showing up… and for his terrible puns and "dad" jokes.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, his children, Rachel and Kevin, his stepchildren, Maria, Johnnie, Damien and Emma, as well as his grandchildren, his sister Colleen and his brother Vernon. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed but remembered in our hearts. May God bless his soul, and may he rest in peace.

Funeral mass to be held Friday, November 25, 2016 at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church, 22561 121 Ave, Maple Ridge, at 11:30am. Reception to follow at parish centre.
