January 31, 1949 - July 2, 2022
Cynthia Mary Thorpe, affectionately known as "Sonja", passed away in her home Saturday, July 2nd 2022. She was 73.
Sonja was born on January 31, 1949 in Derbyshire, England to George & Flora (Ratcliff) Milner. She is survived by her husband, Bernie Stoelzle, three sons, Anthony (Sarah), Arran (Charmaine) and Liam (Rebecca) as well as six grandchildren Myra, Kelsey, Connor, Greyson, Dylan & Ellison and sisters Jackie (Tom) and Jane (Gordon) who still reside in England.
Sonja moved to Canada in 1973 and settled in New Westminster, British Columbia and moved to Maple Ridge, British Columbia in 1976 where she started her family and made lots of friends. Always a fan of the sunshine and a good time, later in her life, Sonja and Bernie would establish a home in Las Vegas and would vacation there often. The pair were together for over 33 years and said "I do" in 2014.
Sonja loved to travel and she and Bernie would quite often vacation in Germany or on a cruise ship sailing around Alaska. She rarely said no to a trip with her best friend, Janet and always had wonderful stories to share. Truly the life of the party and often the most stylish person, wherever she went. Her generosity knew no bounds and was always willing to help a friend or a stranger in need.
Sonja was predeceased by her sister Margaret (Pete), brother in law Gordon (Jane) ex-husband Keith Thorpe and daughter Kyra.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 30th at St George Anglican Church in Maple Ridge.
