Labine ~ Donald Aurthur

1946 ~ 2007

It is with profound sadness that the family of Donald Arthur Labine announces his sudden passing on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 while on a motorcycle trip with his brother and close friends. Beloved husband of Mary-Anne; father of Paul and Lisa (Dave) Morroz; proud grandfather of Matthew and Joel. Born to Florence (Broughton) and Leonard Labine at McKenzie Island, Ontario on June 24, 1946. Don joined the Labine family with an older sister Rae and brother Ralph and later followed by brothers Gerald and Stephen and sister Theresa. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Stephen. Growing up in northern Ontario, he developed a love of the outdoors and family camaraderie. He was an accomplished professional engineer with a Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Lakehead University and maintained the highest level of integrity in his job no matter where he worked. Employed by Sandwell at the time of his death, he had travelled Canada and other parts of the world working as a Senior Project Engineer in their Power Engineering division. Don was a kind-hearted, strong man with quiet confidence and his own unique sense of humor appreciated by all who knew him. Woodworking was one of his passions and across Canada, many family and friends have one of his wonderful handmade wooden projects. A capable do-it-yourselfer, recently Don was helping Paul refit his sailboat, had helped Lisa and Dave with the construction of their Ottawa home, and built a wonderful backyard pergola for his wife. His sincere interest in and respect of others made him a pleasure to work and travel with. Recent travels included annual motorcycle trips in Canada and the United States, cruising to Alaska, Disney World with the grandchildren, Spain and China with work, and Mexico with his wife. Don's greatest accomplishments were his family, friends, relatives and the many relationships he developed over the course of his happy life and successful career. All who know him will remember him fondly and miss him enormously. Funeral Service was held Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the Maple Ridge Funeral Parlor.
