It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy May Symons (Potts) on March 1, 2022 at the age of 89.
Dorothy was born in New Westminster on August 5, 1932 and passed away peacefully at Maple Ridge Hospital.
Dorothy grew up in Port Moody where she met her husband Bill while working at the Port Moody City Hall. They were married in 1953, daughter Corinne was born in 1958 followed by son George in 1959. They lived in Port Moody until 1967 when the family moved to Maple Ridge.
Dorothy worked for School District #42 as a secretary in various schools throughout the district until she retired.
Dorothy and Bill had many travels and enjoyed sailing trips along the B.C. Coast with friend's, numerous trips to San Diego, Ontario and visits with family in England. Dorothy was an avid gardener. Her backyard filled with flowering shrubs and trees as well as stunning hanging baskets and potted annuals.
She was a seamstress and knitter and hosted a monthly sewing group. She also baked and decorated cakes for all occasions.
Dorothy's grandchildren and great granddaughter were her greatest source of pride and joy. She enjoyed watching Dateline with Kelsey, FaceTiming with Dayna and Eva and visits from Jason with his dog Lola.
Predeceased by her mother, father and beloved husband of 65 years, Bill.
Survived by daughter Corinne, son George, grandchildren Kelsey, Dayna (Adrian), Jason and great granddaughter Eva, brother Joe Potts (Annette).
There will be no service at Dorothy's request, a gathering of friends and family will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to the Myasthenia Gravis Association of BC would be appreciated.
