June 27, 1929 - September 21, 2021
With sadness we announce the passing of Edith (Shorty) Evans, beloved wife of the late Victor Evans, at the Prince of Peace Manor in Calgary on September 21, 2021 at the age of 92 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Ronald (Deborah) Evans and Debbie (Oliver) Staudt of Calgary; her four grandchildren: Jason, Matthew, Linnea, and Ellysa; one great granddaughter Sadie; and her brother Carl Augustine of BC.
She was predeceased by her father Hilmer Augustine (1961); her mother Emmy Margareta Augustine (1930); her husband Victor Evans (May 2017); and ten brothers and sisters: Emmy, Al, Len, Eric, Helen, Darleen, Carl, Marvin, Thelma, and Mildred.
Edith was the most understanding, loving and social wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother one could ever imagine.
The second youngest of 12 and assisted by her wonderful sisters she was crowned New Westminster, May Queen in 1939 and went on to meet British Royalty soon after.
Edith married in June 1952, moving to Edmonton in 1964 to raise a family and support Victor within the Woodwards organization for more than 40 years. They returned to Pitt Meadows BC for many wonderful retirement years where they made many very close friends and neighbours that became family. There they hosted their son's wedding in 1985 and their grandson's wedding in 2016, both on the May long weekends in their backyard.
Edith moved to Calgary in 2017 where she took up residence at the Prince of Peace Manor and enjoyed being close to her immediate family while making some wonderful new friends. We extend our warmest regards to the staff and nurses at the Prince of Peace Manor for their time and efforts extended to our trusting mother, thank you all kindly.
If so desired, memorial donations in Edith's name may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
