JORSSEN - Ellis Robert Peter. Born July 4th 1933 in Cape Town, South Africa and passed away peacefully on July 15th in Ridge Meadows Hospital, Maple Ridge, BC after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, with his wife by his side. Surviving him is his wife Valerie of 52 years, daughter Renee (John) Chadwick, son Peter (Tamar) Jorssen, grandchildren Cullen & Reaghan Chadwick, Brendon & Aiden Jorssen. His brothers David (Lorette), Vernon (Audrey), Robert (Brenda), sisters Cynthia (Dickie), Yule (Renus), several brothers - and sisters - in law and many nieces and nephews. Ellis, Valerie and Renee immigrated to Canada in 1965 and Peter was born in 1966. Ellis taught in the Surrey and Coquitlam School Districts. He became an active member in the Pitt Meadows Ratepayer's and Community Garden Associations. He enjoyed cooking, traveling, playing cricket, bridge, golf and badminton. When he retired in 1989 his new interests also included lawn and 5 pin bowling and volunteering with Meals on Wheels. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Friday, July, 29th at 2:00 pm at the First Memorial Burkeview Chapel - 1340 Dominion Ave, Port Coquitlam. Special thanks to Dr. Q Wasti, the Doctors and Nurses on 2 West at Ridge Meadows Hospital, the staff at Holyrood Manor and the extended family and many friends who have supported him and his family during his illness. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been established in the name of Ellis Jorssen for a student who will pursue a teaching career.
