Genine passed away suddenly in Maple Ridge, BC. Born in Worcester, England she came to Calgary with her parents in 1957. She was predeceased by her husband W. Gregory Filion in November 2015 and father G. Derek Houghton in 2010. Genine is survived by her mother Edith Houghton, brothers Brian (Lynn), Neil (Julie), nieces Laura, Sarah, Christine, Tiana, nephew Taylor and family, Uncle Cliff Hughson and family. After graduating from the University of Calgary in 1977 Genine taught at schools throughout BC. She deeply cared about her students, especially First Nation and those in need. A Memorial Bursary in Genine’s name has been set up. Family and friends so wishing, can make a tax receipt charitable donation, by cheque, to “School District No. 42” at 22225 Brown Ave., Maple Ridge, BC V2X 8N6 notating on cheque “Genine W. Houghton Bursary”.
