EDWARDS, Gerald William Dale


It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gerald William Dale Edwards (Gerry) on the 31st of August, 2014. He was born to proud parents, William Henry Edwards and Eva Eleanor (Dale), on the 7th of September, 1934, on the family farm outside of Oakshela, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by wife Sharon Lee, sisters Jessie and Joyce. Mourned by sister May, sons Miles, Ricky/Geraldine, Blair /Jamie, daughter Lana, stepsons Kirk and Todd Sherman; grandchildren Michelle, Melissa / Andrew Stone, Matthew, Mark, Tim / Tannis, Stacy, Samantha / Osvaldo Codoceo, Mackenzie, Alan Taylor and Kyle Sherman; great grand children Dakota, Ethan, Athena, Caiden, Brooklyn, and Linden; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. His loving family and friends brought great joy to Gerry. All who knew Gerry will remember him as a kind, loving person, with a quick wit, ready to help anyone in need. Gerry will be deeply missed. Gerry was a staunch unionist, active with the United Steel Workers. He was also a supporter of the New Democratic Party, both provincially and federally, for many decades. He was a long time friend and sponsor to those of the One Way Club, having celebrated 50 years of sobriety earlier this year.

A funeral will be held at Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel, 11969 - 216th St Maple Ridge, at 3 PM Saturday September 13th 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate Memorial donations in Gerald’s name through, the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR) or the Steelworkers Humanity Fund 800 - 234 Eglinton Avenue East, Toronto, Ontario M4P 1K7; and/or to the One Way Club, 22270 North Ave Maple Ridge, BC.
