Hendrik van der Woude went to be with the Lord on April 2, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife Jennie of 62 years, His children Agnes, Betty (Steve) their children Craig, Corey (Tina) Miranda, His son John (Judy) their children Laura (Shawn) Mark, Katie, Youngest daughter Rita (Steve) their children Barbara, Angela, Adam, Tamara. Their Grandson and great-grandson to Henry Kadin. Also survived by his sisters Trien (Karst) and Saakje in The Netherlands, plus relatives in Canada and The Netherlands. He is predeceased by his eldest sister Boukje. Henry was born on February 27, 1920 in Munnekezijl, -The Netherlands, the only son and the second of four children of the late Jan and Elisabeth van der Woude. Jennie and Henry were married in The Netherlands on May 3, 1948 They immigrated to Canada July 1st, 1949. They had 3 children born in Winnipeg and after their move to BC in 1954 their youngest daughter was born .Henry's aspiration to become a dairy farmer did not materialize due to a serious back injury as a result of a work related injury with the Vancouver Water Board in 1957. As part of retraining he attended Vancouver Vocational School and earned a certificate as a boiler operator. For 23 years he worked for the Maple Ridge School District, mostly at Maple Ridge Secondary School. His Christian faith and family were most important in his life. He enjoyed helping his family and friends whenever he could. He took pleasure in working in his yard, caring for his birds and dogs as well as listening to his music, and vacations in Holland and other places over the years. Henry's family would like to thank the nursing staff at Alouette Manor for the great care he received during his recent hospitalization. Thanks also to the Home Support staff and Palliative team for the care they provided while he was at home. You all made his last days brighter.
