In loving memory ~
Howard was born in Winnipeg to parents William "Peter" and Rose (Macrae). He was raised in Burnaby on Cliff Ave., where he explored Burrard Inlet and surrounding areas with his boyhood chums. He was an avid sportsman and played many musical instruments. His sense of humour developed at an early age.
Most of his working years were spent at the Chevron refinery in Burnaby. Prior to retirement, he was employed in the maintenance department at School District 42 in Maple Ridge.
Howard met his wife, Dianne (Tough), on a blind date and enjoyed almost 63 years of marriage. They raised their family in Coquitlam and Maple Ridge. Howard managed, coached and refereed youth lacrosse and hockey in both communities.
He was proud to serve as a volunteer firefighter with Maple Ridge Fire Hall #2.
Twenty years ago, Howard and Dianne relocated to Hazelton to be closer to their grandchildren. While in his 80s, Howard mastered the iPad so he could listen to music and keep up with current events. He will be remembered as an entertaining storyteller who enjoyed the great outdoors and appreciated a good meal in good company.
Howard is predeceased by his parents, his two sisters and their husbands: Elizabeth "Beth" Pipe (Harold) and Catherine "Cathy" McKenzie ("Spike"), and nephews Greg Bird and Randy Pipe.
He is survived by his wife Dianne, daughter Jamie (Scott Kelly), son Cameron (Sherryl) and grandchildren Craig "Partner" and Cassie. Howard will be remembered by many nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends.
At his request, there will be no service. If desired, memorial donations can be made to St. Paul's Foundation (www.helpstpauls.com).
