Patrick O'Rourke passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 4 at the age of 89. Patrick was a beloved figure in Maple Ridge easily recognized by his long hair and sparkle of humour in his eyes: as a singer/musician in the Dewdney Trunk Road Band, activist in local politics, and comic relief MC'ing many events.
Patrick was best known as a lifelong peace activist whose primary causes were the anti-nuclear and environmental movements, travelling around the world to participate in peace walks and protests, often with his family. For four decades Patrick worked as a draftsman for HA Simons, before joining the Portland Hotel Society, where he was instrumental in the creation of North America's first ever safe injection site as well as many other iconic events in support of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside population.
Patrick was always kind-hearted and generous to everyone. He was a very special person and a bright force for good on this planet. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Gillian, his four children, Patrick, Frances, Christopher and Alan, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His legacy will live long in all of their hearts. God Bless You. Peace.
