January 3, 1931 - April 20, 2020
Bob was born in Scotland and raised in Edinburgh. He married Ishbel, who he adored, and they had many adventures and 30 wonderful years together. With their twins, Lynda and Steve, they emigrated twice to Canada from Scotland. Sadly, Ishbel passed away too soon at the age of 50 in 1983. Bob was lucky to find love again and was married to Barbara for 32 years. She predeceased him by only six weeks.
Here's a bottle and an honest friend!
What wad ye wish for mair, man?
Wha kens, before his life may end,
What his share may be o' care, man?
Then catch the moments as they fly,
And use them as ye ought, man:
Believe me, happiness is shy,
And comes not aye when sought, man.
Robert Burns
Bob lived his life fully with enthusiasm and integrity. Whether it was securing rights for workers as a union steward, taking up golf after retiring, or having a dram and conversing, he did it all with passion and commitment. Everyone loved spending time with him. His smile could light up a room, he was curious and thoughtful, and he gave the very best hugs. His sense of humour was legend, as was his effervescence and zest for life, and he was a true and loyal friend. He'll be missed by everyone at St. George's Village, especially Natalie, and Howard and Marcia, whose friendship and kindness he always appreciated. His family meant the world to him and he was incredibly proud of his grandsons Bruce and Graham. The family in turn are fortunate to have had such a compassionate, kind and truly good man as their dad, grandad, brother-in-law and uncle. Lynda , Michael, Steve, Marie, Bruce, Madeline, Graham and Emilie are immensely saddened by this deep loss, as are his extended family in Scotland.
So fill to me the parting glass,
And drink a health whate'er befalls,
Then gently rise and softly call,
Goodnight and joy be with you all.
But since it falls unto my lot,
That I should rise and you should not,
I'll gently rise and softly call,
Goodnight and joy be with you all.
