SWIERSTRA Sieb. 1931 ~ 2011. Born September 5th, 1931 in the Netherlands. After a brief illness, he passed away peacefully on November 9th, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Maureen, daughter Karen (Garth), sons Dan (Theresa), Bart (Melanie) and grandchildren Tess, Willem and Dylan, brothers Ernie (Norma), John (Mary Ann), Hessel (Bea) and sister Grace. Sieb came to Canada to work on a dairy farm in October 1950. Then worked as a heavy duty machine operator and later learned to become a very skilled dragline operator, forming his own company S. & B. Excavating. He proudly became a Canadian Citizen after 5 years in Canada. Sieb entered politics as Director on the Dewdney Alouette Regional District and later served as a Councilor in Pitt Meadows. His passion was the Dikes, build them high and strong enough before the next flood under a united regional district. Sieb with Walter Laseur planned our cenotaph and has organized the Remembrance Ceremonies in Pitt Meadows. He was a member of the Legion. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at Maple Ridge Funeral Chapel, 11969 – 216th Street at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 19th. Condolences may be sent to www.mapleridgefuneral.ca
