Theresa Dorothea (nee Schmid) Altenried

October 12, 1936 - August 22, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Theresa Altenried at the age of 85. She left us peacefully at Ridge Meadows Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Theresa leaves behind her loving husband of 66 years, Sigmund Altenried, and her two sons Ralph Altenried (Kaye), and Garry Altenried (Lesli). She was a wonderful Oma to her three granddaughters: Natasha Newberry (Andrew), Breanna Murphy (Adam), and Taylor Altenried; as well as an adoring Omi to her great-grandson, Ronan.
Theresa was born in Hussenhofen, Germany, daughter of Vinzenz and Franziska Schmid, and was the third of five siblings. She is predeceased by her brother Gerhardt, sisters Hilde and Irmgard, and is survived by her brother Hans. Theresa met Sigmund, the love of her life, when she was 17. They married in 1956 and immigrated to Canada in 1957. They eventually settled in Haney, BC in their home on River Road where they raised their two sons and made many lifelong friends.
Theresa worked in the deli and meat department at the Safeway in Maple Ridge until retirement, when she and Sigmund moved out to Harrison Hot Springs. They lived there for 25 years, making many new friends. Theresa had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in both her church choir and the local Bavarian Choir alongside Sigmund, who played the accordion. She was also an active member of the hiking club. Theresa loved to travel, and she and Sigmund took many trips together around the world.
Theresa was a fabulous cook and homemaker, who loved to entertain. She was a beautiful, vibrant, outgoing person who lived life to the fullest. She was an amazing wife, sister, mother, mother-in-law, oma and omi, and the pillar of our family. Theresa touched many lives, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service for Theresa will be held on Friday, September 9th, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, located at 7237 Morrow Rd., Agassiz, BC. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
