HANSEN Wilhelm Kaarud (Bill). July 20, 1914 ~ March 3, 2012. Bill passed away peacefully after a battle of pneumonia on March 3, 2012 at the age of 97 years at Langley Gardens Retirement Centre with his step-son, Tom and wife, Sue by his side. He will be forever lovingly remembered by them along with his only surviving sibling, his sister, Lilly, his son, Henrik (Linda), and step daughters, Terri, Donna, and step-son, Larry (Eleanore), grandchildren, Richard, David, Larry, Nicole and Andrew, step-grandchildren, Lisa, Chris, Laura, Misty, Lindsay, James and Justin, great grandchildren, Laurn, Nicolina, Sabrina, Inga, step-great grandchildren, Avery, Wesley, Ashlene and Quintus. Bill is predeceased by his first wife, Mary, his daughter, Elizabeth, his second wife, Jean and step-son, Gerry. Bill left his homeland of Norway in 1957 to start a new life in Canada. He worked for many years at Gulf of Georgia Towing up until an injury forced him into retirement. In 1980 Bill met Jean and married a second time. Always a love for the outdoors, Bill and Jean spent many days walking, hiking, and fishing. In 2005, Bill moved into the home of his step-son, Tom and wife, Sue where he lived and was cared for up until his retirement to Langley Gardens in August of 2010. A long and fulfilling life, Bill will be greatly missed by his families, many relatives and friends both in Norway and here in Maple Ridge. Bill will live on in our hearts forever. A special thank you to Bill’s long time physician and friend, Dr. Harrison of Maple Ridge, Dr. Damien and the many doctors and nurses at Langley Memorial Hospital as well as the Nurses and staff at Langley Gardens Retirement Centre. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Bill’s life will take place on Sunday, the 18th day of March, 2012 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at #28 – 24185 – 106B Avenue, Maple Ridge, BC.
