Can’t afford Conservatives

Editor, The News:

Re: ‘Harper government’ should be embraced (Commentary, March 11).

As we face another federal election, the ‘Harper’ government is portraying itself as a careful steward of our tax dollars. It would be laughable if it didn’t hurt so much.

As with countless Conservative governments in the past, this one inherited a surplus, which it squandered with politically expedient tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, then created the biggest deficit in history.

Under the Conservatives’ rule, government has grown by 15 per cent, contrary to their promise of reducing government

So again, a Conservative government, despite all the rhetoric, has delivered the opposite of what it promised – bigger government and bigger deficits.  We can’t afford them any longer.
