Homeless number getting ‘crazy’

Letter writer says homeless numbers getting worse in Maple Ridge.

Editor, The News:

People need help but the amount of homeless people in Maple Ridge is getting crazy.

There is not a day that goes by that I don’t see somebody doing a drug deal in front of my house.

It continues to get worse and the district needs to do something about it. We have been told many times by police to call if there is something suspicious happening.

We do and are told, “Sorry, but there isn’t anything we can do about it.”

The Alouette Addictions Services on Lougheed Highway was the best thing put in. The people there are great.

The Salvation Army’s Caring Place on the other hand, needs to go. You cannot tell us all the people we see on the streets of Maple Ridge are from here. We shouldn’t be scared to walk on our own street.

To the police and district:  something needs to be done now. We have been living with this long enough and moving people a few blocks is not the solution. Let’s fix the problem together and fast.
