Dear Editor,

Re: [Councillor takes Maple Ridge to court, The News, Feb. 18]

I support Councillor Gordy Robson’s fight for justice against what I see as rather a “councillor control bylaw.”

How is it that fellow councillors and mayor have the power to censure or provide evidence to censure other council members but not even allowing said member to provide evidence in rebuttal?

This is adversarial and is simply about power and control in the hands of the majority.

This lends itself to secrecy and definitely not “open government” that politicians talk about at election times.

To avoid this there needs to be provincial oversight of municipal conduct as Councillor Robson states in his petition. It would also enhance public perception and trust in our local government.

Grover Telford, Maple Ridge
