Re: ‘Be impartial’ (Letters, April 1).
The Community Charter prohibits a member of council from using their office to influence a decision of a municipality, that has a ‘direct pecuniary interest’ in a matter.
These Standards apply to all municipal and regional district elected officials. The legislation addresses conflict of interest as ‘inside and/or outside influence’.
I am not on either side of the Sheridan Hill issue, as I don’t have sufficient information at this time to form an opinion.
But MLA Doug Bing does not have a conflict of interest and can say anything and do what he wants.
And after spending time on council, he does know about ethical conduct.
The majority of councillors can say what they wish.
As far as I know, we have no property developers or real estate salesman on council at this time or a councillor with mining shares.
Katzie can say anything they want as they have a historical interest, as can any and all the citizens of Pitt Meadows.
