Re: Former Pelton land pitched again (The News, June 8).

Mayor Nicole Read and Coun. Bob Masse, it is both short-sighted and foolish to sacrifice agricultural land to development.

As the population of Maple Ridge and all of Metro Vancouver increases, arable land will become even more valuable – not only for food production, but also for something equally obvious: we need land to absorb the rain.
