Re: Former News publisher passes (The News, June 22).

I was shocked and saddened to read of the passing of former Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows News publisher, Roy Lind.

Roy was the consummate newspaper man and was a great help to me when I first arrived in Maple Ridge in 2000.

I remember him driving me around the area and introducing me to many of the local business people, and offering to do anything he could to help me get established.

I remember attending his retirement party in 1999 and thinking that he was too young to retire.

He always seemed so energetic and involved. He had friends in every market in the province. I think he knew everybody.

And now this news seems sadly premature, as well.

My heart goes out to his family and to all who knew and loved him.

He was a very good man.
