A community, family and nation now comes to grip with another sad story of the loss of two-year-old Chase Martens of Manitoba. He was found dead after he went missing for a few days.

To those who volunteered in the search – officials, First Nations and others – your community service, compassion, hearts and help speak volumes, even with this tragic heartbreak. Condolences to the family for their loss, as we all hoped for a miracle, even when days had passed.

According to news sources, there was no foul play in this incident, but it reminds us we are creatures of time and that anything can happen, even with good, attentive parenting.

It is a sad reminder that, as parents or relatives we need eyes in the back of our heads when we are around young children; including our own. It only takes a blink of an eye to trigger a child’s disappearance, choking incident or foul play.

To the parents, many mourn your loss and it is hoped, in time, you will find the courage to face tomorrow. There is a small pair of angel’s wings tailored for Chase, and heaven has a new member. These words are of little comfort now, but Chase will never be forgotten because he lives in your heart.

Hold your children close, love them and guide their paths because we are like a candle in the wind. No parent wants to go through that tragic loss, but for those who do; know you are not alone.
