Men needed not apply

The problem is the NDP fights discrimination with discrimination and this presents a conundrum.

Re: Rosenau earns B.C. NDP nomination (The News, June 27).

I admire the passion and dedication to her political views shown by NDP candidate for Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge Elizabeth Rosenau.

The problem is the NDP fights discrimination with discrimination and this presents a conundrum. She states “she believes her visibility in the community, her background in health care, and an endorsement from Michael Sather helped her win the race.” She omits to say that men were never a consideration and need not apply.

Many women have risen to great heights in politics going head-to-head with men: Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meir, Corazon Aquino, Indira Gandhi, Kim Campbell, Angela Merkel, Carol James and Christy Clark, to name just a few.

The best woman or man should win To exclude a significant portion of the possible candidates is not democracy.
