Would there be staff to deal with a spill?

Fisheries and Oceans Canada said to be dumping staff

Editor, The News:

My daughter just sent me a newspaper article from the Kootenays, that the Department of Fisheries and Oceans is closing the Nelson Habit Management office.

When I checked further into it, I found that 132 habitat staff across Canada are being fired, a 33 per cent reduction, and most offices in B.C. will be closed. That includes the Mission office and the office in Prince George.

Only four offices – Whitehorse, Prince Rupert, Kamloops, Vancouver and Nanaimo – will be left open.

If the Enbridge Pipeline goes through northern B.C., there will be no habitat staff in Prince George or Smithers to respond to a disaster.
