Burrards 1st place in WLA

A pair of wins last weekend puts the Maple Ridge lacrosse team in 1st place.

The Maple Ridge Burrards are undefeated and first in the WLA after a pair of wins last weekend.

The Burrards defeated the Nanaimo Timbermen 9-7 at Cam Neely Arena in Maple Ridge on Sunday.

Riley Lowen led the local senior men’s lacrosse team with two goals and three assists, while Mike Mallory had six helpers. Coady Adamson added a goal and two assists. Lyndon Knuttila, Aaron Davis and Matt Symes also scored. Luke Gillespie collected three assists for the Burrards, now 4-0.

They outshot Nanaimo 54-37. Frank Scigliano earned the win in net.

The Burrards also downed the Victoria Shamrocks 12-10 in overtime Friday on Vancouver Island.

Mallory paced Ridge with four goals and two assists. Adamson had two goals, including one in OT, as well as four assists. Davis also scored in the extra frame. Gillespie finished with three goals and two assists. He is now tied for the league lead with 10 goals.

Mike Berekoff had three assists against Victoria, while Zack Porter and Dayne Michaud each had two. Colton Porter and Spencer Evans also scored. Scigliano made 38 saves as the Burrards outshot the third-place Shamrocks 57-48.

 

Peewee golds

Ridge Meadows Burrards won gold at peewee A1 lacrosse tournaments two weekend in a row.

The Burrards defeated Juan de Fuca 8-2 in the final of the Trevor Wingrove Memorial Tournament in Coquitlam, June 2-5.

The also defeated Juan de Fuca 5-3 in the final of the Captain Cook Tournament in Victoria, May 27-29.

 

The Ridge Meadows Pink Panthers won gold at the recent Reign Storm lacrosse tournament in Pitt Meadows.

The novice girls’ team defeated others from Port Moody, Burnaby,  Coquitlam, as well as Ridge Meadows.
