The City of Maple Ridge is in playoff mode, and holding Vancouver Canucks viewing parties starting on Wednesday, May 8.

With the Canucks facing off in a second-round Stanley Cup playoff series against Connor McDavid’s Edmonton Oilers, the city is inviting residents to get in the Canucks spirit, and watch the games at a free, family-friendly viewing party at the Greg Moore Youth Centre (GMYC).

The first viewing party kicks off on Wednesday in the multipurpose room at the GMYC (11925 Haney Place). Fans are encouraged to wear their jersey, hat, or other Canucks wear to show their support. City hall will also be lit up in blue and green to get behind the Canucks.

“We are excited to invite the community to get in on the hockey action and cheer on the Canucks during this next round,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “This is a great way to build community spirit in a fun, family-friendly environment. Let’s go Canucks!”

Cities across the province have similar Canucks-watching events happening, both indoors and out.

Attendees in Maple Ridge can enter from the side doors of GMYC, or follow posted signage. There will be no impacts on existing programming. Snacks and drinks are available for sale at the concession. No outside food or alcohol is allowed. Space is available on a first come, first served basis.

The viewing parties will take place during the series on these dates:

Game 1 Wednesday, May 8 at 7 p.m. - doors open at 6 p.m.

Game 2 Friday, May 10 at 7 p.m. - doors open at 6 p.m.

Game 3 Sunday, May 12 at 6:30 p.m. - doors open at 6 p.m.

Game 4-7 To be announced
