Fast start for Ridge Racers speed skaters

The Ridge Meadow Racers started the speed skating season strong in events at the Sportplex in Langley and the Olympic Oval in Calgary.

The Ridge Meadow Racers started the speed skating season strong in events at the Sportplex in Langley and the Olympic Oval in Calgary.

The Langley Blades hosted the first Lower Mainland meet at the Sportplex on Oct, 22.

In Div. 1, Marshall Shupe posted three personal best in the 500m (45.84), 1000m (1:36.76) and 1500m (2:36.45) races, to finish second overall.

Div. 3 saw Samuel Green with bests in his 400m (43.18), 500m (54.51) and 1500m (2:54.08)

Div. 4 had Rohann Chassay (57.82) and Catalina Shupe (1:00.39) who pb’d in their 500m races.

In Div. 5 there were several Ridge Racers with good performances. Danica Custance and Willa Ludeman had pb’s in all distances and Hailey Friesen had pbs in two.

Div. 9 saw three skaters from the Ridge club with three bests in Jared Custance, Cailean Jackson and Jared Llarena.

Tahlon Flamma and Marshall Shupe (Jr. B age class) went to the Calgary oval to attend the Western Elite Circuit event on Oct 14-16.

This three-day meet is an open circuit for Juniors, Neo Seniors, and Seniors.

Flamma finished 48th out of 67, with personal bests in his 500m and 1500m races.

Shupe had to pull out of the competition due injury.
